It's that time again, after a wonderful Christmas I sometimes feel sad when it all ends. Both my boys have December birthdays, so it seems like it is constant celebration. And then Christmas break is over and everybody is back to school or back to work, It's no longer exciting to see snow and I dread the long winter. But happiness is a choice and it is the choice I pick for the coming year.
Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.
Philippians 4:11
I have that verse on an index card stuck to my refrigerator and it makes me smile everyday. This little index card is so special because it is written in my sweet momma's beautiful handwriting. I lost my mom November 16, 2013. She was my best friend, my biggest supporter and truly a hero in my eyes. Losing her has been by far, the hardest thing I have ever had to endure. She spent 25 plus year dealing with multiple illnesses, first leukemia, and then the effects of her treatment. She was a beautiful, delicate woman, but much stronger than her frame suggested. She fought hard, without complaint and with more grace than anybody I know. And the Bible verse above, describes how she lived her life.
So, I choose happiness in whatever state I find myself. I will follow my mother's great example and try to live my life in a way that would make her proud.
